Less of a question and more of a statement as he made his way up to Gwen's locker, going to turn and lean his back against the one adjacent.
There's an awkward smile on his face, fakely over-wide, but it's clear he's trying.
There's a school dance coming up and he's still a little bit in the dog house over the whole one-week breakup... so... he should probably ask her to it, right? Girls like that sort of thing.
Granted, girls shouldn't like that sort of thing with him because he absolutely cannot dance.
That smile grew, but he somehow didn't look happier for it; just more bemused. Cover up the uncomfortableness with extra energy!
"Well! Yeah! Who hasn't?"
Wetting his lips and looking down, scuffing a shoe, he quickly came back with, "I've, uh-- danced in my shower since I was seven. So I've got you beat by a year. Not that-- I still do that. I'm out of practice, anyway."
Nervous? Him? Nah, never.
Okay, maybe a little.
Since she was eight? Ahhhhhhh, heck.
"School dance? There's a, uh, school dance?" Rubbing at the back of his head, he glanced up, then smiled again. "I didn't know. If I'd have known, I definitely would have asked you already, right? And you definitely would have said..."
"You really need to work on asking a girl to a dance, Peter." She shook her head and give him a quick kiss on the check.
She then says, kinda shyly, "I told him that you and I are...a thing. So...he backed off." Well, after Flash asked why she was with Parker.
"I've been waiting for you to ask me for days. I thought I'd end up having to ask you." That wouldn't go over well either seeing as she was very shy around Peter.
"So...this means we're officially going together?" she asked.
This whole dating again thing was kind of new. I mean...they had a rocky start with a couple make-out sessions. That she...really liked. But she wouldn't tell him that.
"I'll have to go dress shopping then." She wanted to get something special for their first dance together.
"It isn't. But I want to look nice." She didn't add the 'for you' part. She decided to keep that to herself.
"It won't be a ball gown or anything," she elaborated, almost like reading his mind. "Just...a simple dress."
She was quiet for a minute and then asked, "Um...should we coordinate?" Do dates color coordinate for dances? Oh boy. So much new territory here. A giant lizard she can handle but a dance...all kinds of problems.
"Oh...okay. Um..." It would help if she knew what kind of dress she was going to get. But she knew she would be unbelievably picky. She wanted the right one.
"I guess once I pick out my dress I'll tell you what color it is. And you can get a vest that matches it." She had seen some couples do that in the past, and it looked rather nice and...couple-y.
He repeated, as if trying to understand what the words meant. As if Gwen had just spoken very fast French at him.
And then--
"Yeah. And I'll get a vest that matches it."
He's even more lost now than he was a moment ago. First of all, who wore vests anymore? Second of all, what did you wear with a vest? A vest with jeans on top of his tee-shirt would probably look... silly.
See, now, this was starting to sound suspiciously formal...
Girls were tricky like that.
"Do you want me to wear a tux?'
Squinting a little now. Whether he would try that or not directly depended upon how much more time making out a tux might get him. (The answer might be 'tons less', his having no tux-ability on tap.)
"It's up to you, Peter. You're the one that's going to be wearing it," she replied. It would be nice if both of them were formal but she could be unformal for him.
"Whatever you decide, I'll be fine with," she said with a smile.
"Okay then." She swings her backpack over her shoulder and wraps her arms around Peter's neck. "It would be nice to see you a tux. I think you'd look really handsome." She finished her answer with a kiss.
Making out in the hallways was frown on at Midtown High.
Oh he was going to need her help so badly for this. "How about we go tux shopping tomorrow?"
She had to admit she liked being in his arms. Her hand went up to his hair and mused it even more. "Maybe get you some hair gel too," she said with a laugh.
"Maybe...but it looks like you just rolled out of bed. But it is cute on you though." Her cheeks turned pink a little...admitting any type of feelings made her self conscious. Even if it is just telling Peter he is cute.
"I'll be at your place at noon," she agreed with a nod. She kissed him once more. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

Head-Bopping aside.

"Yes, I do. I've been ballroom dancing since I was eight."
Little fact there. She'll leave out the part where she wasn't particularly thrilled about it.
"This question doesn't have anything to do with the upcoming school dance does it?" she questioned.

Insert your 'yes' here, okay? Cool.

"Oh, so you didn't know?" She teased. "You need to pay more attention Parker. You're going to be stuck at number two in our class at that rate."
Packing up the last bit of her things she closed her locker and looked at him squarely in the eye.
"I've been asked by Flash two times already." Cause Flash is a go-getter. Peter should take notes.
no subject
He deflated.
She'd been asked by Eugene? Twice?
Well at least that meant she said 'no' the first time.
It also meant he was doing a pretty bad job of making who the boyfriend was obvious.
"...I'll... have to ask Flash why he didn't ask me, too. I'm a little hurt."
Back to scuffing his shoe now.
"So..."
...A little more information, please? Jealous, inquiring minds want to know why he didn't have to ask a third time.

"So he asked a second time because he couldn't believe it, huh? That guy." Shaking his head a little, Peter pushed up and off of the lockers.
"I've just been-- yanno-- thinking of the right way to not-ask." Since that was exactly what he's managed to do. "Takes a lot longer than asking."

On the one hand, Gwen in a dress was... wow. Like, seriously, all kinds of wow. New kinds of wow, even. A dress was good.
But a dress also might mean he was supposed to not show up in a hoodie and a jacket.
"It's not formal, is it?"
no subject
"It won't be a ball gown or anything," she elaborated, almost like reading his mind. "Just...a simple dress."

"Coordinate?"
He had no idea what that meant. Didn't the school coordinate the event? Maybe she was the event co-ordinator?
Grabbing both straps on his backpack, he leaned his head to one side, stretching his neck a little.
"Yeah. Let's coordinate."
Still has no idea what that means, but it sounds positive. Right? It's probably positive.

"...Maybe. Don't get a pink dress."
For the love of all things good, not pink.

"...You don't want to wear a tux, do you?"
Peter didn't look like he was going to go to a school dance in fancy clothes. She wondered what he would wear to prom.

"That's-- not an answer. I need kind of a more-- a real. You need to answer that question, Gwen. That's an order."
Or begging. Orders, begging; could be similar, right?

He replies, tone just the faintest bit whiny.
But he'd do it, of course. or try to at least. I mean, c'mon; who could say no to that face?
"So..." Going to put his arms around her waist, "where do I go to get a tux?"
no subject
She had to admit she liked being in his arms. Her hand went up to his hair and mused it even more. "Maybe get you some hair gel too," she said with a laugh.

Okay... tomorrow gave him enough time to pray he could get together enough of his savings not to embarrass himself.
"Wanna meet up at my place, say, noon?"
no subject
"I'll be at your place at noon," she agreed with a nod. She kissed him once more. "I'll see you tomorrow then."

Nodding, he gave her another quick kiss in return before going to straighten out his bag.
"Yeah. See you tomorrow, Gwen."
no subject
"See you tomorrow, Peter," she said over her shoulder with a grin.
Flash totally watched the whole exchange, flabbergasted. How did Peter get such a hot girl?
no subject
"The ladies love a man in converse."
Booyah.

"You're dating out of your league, Parker."
no subject
"Probably. But she said yes to me and no to you, so-- ...I could always give you a few tips later. Yanno, if you want."
Always willing to help someone in need!
no subject
"You're obviously a charity case. No way you two are really going out." Why would she chose Parker over him? He is Midtown's star athlete!
